Rocket Draft FAQ

Quick answers to the questions players ask most about Rocket Draft — the free, fan-made RLCS draft game built on real Rocket League esports history.

Everything you need to get started

Rocket Draft lets you draft a team from real historical RLCS lineups, build chemistry, collect special cards, and play an RLCS-style tournament — all in your browser, free, no account required. Below are the questions players ask most. If you want the full walkthrough, see How to Play; for the ratings system, see Ratings; for the legends showcase, see Special Cards.

Is Rocket Draft free?

Yes. Rocket Draft is completely free and non-commercial — a fan-made passion project celebrating RLCS history. There is no paywall, no ads required to play, and a "buy me a coffee" support link is entirely optional.

Do I need an account to play?

No account is needed. You can start a draft instantly. Your progress is saved on your own device, so nothing to sign up for or log into.

Can I play on mobile?

Yes. Rocket Draft runs in any modern browser on both desktop and mobile — no app to download and no install.

Is Rocket Draft official or affiliated with an esports org?

No. Rocket Draft is an unofficial, fan-made project created by LiberatoRL. It is not affiliated with Psyonix, Epic Games, or any esports organization. Rocket League is a trademark of its owners. It was inspired by Rams' draftrlcs.app.

How are player ratings and overalls calculated?

Every overall is built in two layers: a calculated base plus a hand manual review. The calculation weighs team placement, tournament tier, season strength, win rate, titles, Major and Worlds appearances, Top 4 and Top 8 finishes, individual stats where available, region strength, and consistency across events. The manual review exists because esports data can mislead — some players overperform statistically due to context, others are historically elite despite worse team results (typical adjustment is small, around plus or minus 3, exceptional plus or minus 5). Six internal stats feed simulation and card depth: Offense, Defense, Mechanics, Consistency, Experience, and Clutch. See the Ratings page for the full methodology.

What are special cards?

Special cards are rare versions of players tied to iconic Rocket League esports moments — Worlds and Major MVP runs, legends, and signature plays. There are 84 of them, and they can appear in any draft. Draft one and finish the run, win or lose, to unlock it in your collection forever. In-game, locked cards show as ??? until you unlock them. The Special Cards page is a curated showcase of legends and does not spoil your unlock progress.

How does the draft work?

Each round deals one real historical RLCS lineup. You take exactly one card from it — a player, the coach, the substitute, or the organization — until you have 3 players, 1 coach, 1 sub, and 1 org. The draft pool is fully random on every difficulty, so luck is the same for everyone; difficulty changes the tournament field, not your draw. If nothing in a lineup fits your open slots, the reroll is free.

What is SAM, the regional mode?

Region-Locked Draft narrows the pool to one scene's full depth — its World Championship teams plus the regional Top 8 that never reached Worlds, meaning deeper benches and local underdogs you won't see worldwide. South America (SAM) is live now, hand-researched from Liquipedia, covering Brazilian and South American teams (for example, yanxnz). More regions are coming soon.

Are more players and teams being added?

Yes. The roster covers real RLCS lineups from 2016 to today, ratings are reviewed and updated over time, and more regions beyond SAM are coming soon. The community can also push back on ratings.

How is my progress saved?

Progress is saved locally on the device you play on — your collection, profile, and settings live in your browser. No account or sign-in is required, so there's nothing to log into to keep playing.
